This Independence Day, Let’s Bring Social Change in India

Social change in India can happen when people come together. As India celebrates 70th Independence Day, we all must strive to achieve freedom against hidden hunger and illiteracy. Social change in India cannot happen unless our children are free from hidden hunger and lack of education.

Feed The Future Now is a social change campaign that aims at eliminating hidden hunger in India. Since the campaign aims at feeding the children in schools, it also addresses education directly.

UNESCO Institute of Statistics 2016 reports that every year 47 million Indian children drop out of schools by the time they reach Std X. In India the biggest cause of this is the fact that many children have to fend for themselves and their siblings. But when they are given a wholesome lunch in schools, they are motivated to attend school regularly and therefore get education.

Several companies have joined hands for this nation-wide social campaign that aims at bringing about a positive change in the field of nutrition and education in India. Feeding the children is not only our duty but also a huge social responsibility because children are our future. When we feed the children with nutritious food, we are able to set them free from the pangs of undernourishment. Children then truly feel free and are able to focus on their education and mental growth – the two factors that are needed for a social change in India.

India has come a long way ever since August 15, 1947, witnessing growth in the sectors of industry, agriculture and services. The only way to truly celebrate our independence this year is to focus on what’s our future. The campaign invites volunteers, corporate companies and organisations to join hands in feeding the children. We must launch a freedom struggle against hidden hunger through campaigns such as this. Hidden hunger truly enslaves our children and affects their freedom of growing and progressing.

This independence day, let’s set our children free from the shackles of hidden hunger.
