A Collaboration of Corporates to Nourish and Nurture Children

Social change in India and Need to Feed Children

The future of any society rests on children and, therefore, social change in India cannot happen without focusing on this demographic. Millions of children are battling with health conditions related to lack of nutrition or hidden hunger. India has 70% anaemic pre-school children. Iron deficiency anaemia results in an eight point lower intelligent quotient (IQ) in children.

This needs to be addressed directly. No social change in India is possible without feeding the children. It’s vital that our children grow in a healthy environment for an overall physical and mental growth.

Feed the Future Now is a nation-wide campaign that has comprehended the urgency of the situation. It’s a campaign that aims to battle with hidden hunger in order to bring about a complete social change in India. The campaign, run by the Akshaya Patra Foundation, is on a mission to feed the children in schools. A considerable number of children in India go to government or government-supported schools. So it’s only logical that the foundation intends to feed mid-day meals to the children.

Anaemia is just one of the several health conditions that occur due to hidden hunger. And like others, it directly affects the mental growth of the children. If everyone collaborates to feed the children with nutritious meals, we can practically contribute in feeding our future. Well-fed children find themselves more readily disposed towards actively participating in education and sports. This leads to an overall mental and physical development – a factor that cannot be eliminated from the healthy growth of children. The objective behind feeding the children in schools is to encourage both nutritious and education. When wholesome lunch is served in schools, children are able to fight classroom hunger and are motivated to attend schools every day.
